Color planning using a grayscale

When different fiber materials and textures are added to the color design, rug hookers are left with an important color planning question. When placed next to other types of wool, it might be challenging to compare the value of each color. In many cases, the colors work nicely together, but does the hooking in of the values work?

The use of a phone camera or the "greyscale" software on an iPad are both quite helpful in this regard. Within this case, a value finder could be utilized. They are available in both red (for warm hues) and green (For cool colors). Squinting at the colors can be helpful even if all other methods have been exhausted.
