The Value of a Teacher

The Value of a Teacher

For newcomers to the art of rug-hooking, I cannot stress enough the importance of having a teacher. For it is she/he who will help you to avoid the costly and frustrating mistakes of hooking. The value of a teacher is immeasurable. When you consider the many aspects involved in rug-hooking, you might find it so daunting that you may feel overwhelmed and give up. That would be a sad mistake because rug-hooking is such a creative outlet, and it certainly fills the need for artistic expression.

If you are unable to find a teacher in your area, consider attending a rug camp. There are camps and workshops all across the U.S. and Canada. The Rug Hooking Magazine, among several other publications, is a great source to find these workshops and camps.

You can also try to take an online class. Look for one that is for beginners. I'm a McGown-certified teacher, and I often will travel to my students or zoom one on one with them. Feel free to reach out to me. I would love to be your rug-hooking teacher.
